AJ Is In For County Commissioner?

This afternoon, the Review has learned that the current City of Beaumont Council Member, AJ Turner, has told friends that he is running for County Commissioner against Bo Alfred.

Our two sources indicate that Turner is still considering a run; however, if he could, he would. He is concerned about being able to beat the powerhouse pol in their own democratic primary.

Turner, who we think is way left of middle, doesn't understand that Alfred leans more towards the fiscal middle. Additionally, he has positioned himself to the left of center. Turner supports abortion, and so does Alfred. However, and in the end, Alford is more of a blue dog democrat that simply tends to bend both ways.

Here are our thoughts as filing has begun and no big stomps have come out of the woods.

Come November 26, 2026, there will be no big changes in the way the government operates. All the same players with no real direction, and of course, the population will drop again – just like this chart shows us all:

Population Chart

Yes, you are reading it right. The population is now down to the 1980s level.

So, again, nothing is new. Nothing is exciting. The same old players over and over. Crime, shootings, stabbings, homicides, and on and on. It all is what it is. Just another great day in Jefferson County, Texas. AJ should run; at least it would be a fun primary.
